La Notte
L'Avventura

La Dolce Vita - Federico Fellini
Divorce Italian Style- Pietro Gemi
Boccaccio '70 - De Sica, Fellini, Monicelli, Visconti

Should definetely see Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow Up, his best. Has David Hemmings in his prime.

Fellini's Satyricon and 8 1/2

I got a really good DVD recently called "Spirits of the Dead" and it has Fellini, Roger Vadim (French director - did Barbarella), Louis Malle (also French director - did Viva Maria w/ Bardot and Jeanne Moreau which is good) - and they all do their own takes on Edgar Allan Poe stories... actors are - Brigitte Bardot, Terence Stamp (hottt!!), Alain Delon (also hot), Jane Fonda, Peter Fonda... really fucking good.

Does Italian horror count in this conversation?

Yes, Blow up and 8 1/2 are great too. Love Louis Malle. I'll check out that Spirits of the Dead, sounds up my alley. I'm not the biggest horror fan these days, seen a few Virgin of Nuremberg and couple Dario Argento films, but if you wanna suggest a couple...cool.

I'd be more in to hearing about more 60's Italian pop and rn'r records...

Bertolucci's Partner is personal fave. Pierre Clementi is one of my fave actors. The Conformist is also great.

also check out some Pasolini. Porcile and Teorema are two of his best.

i soli ignoti is pretty awesome, it's kind of a cross between rififi and asphalt jungle, but made as a comedy.  i think its a late 50s movie though.

Check out Martin Scorsese's amazing MY VOYAGE TO ITALY where he takes the viewer on a fascinating journey highlighting the classics of Italian cinema (Antonioni, Di Sica, Fellini, Renoir, Rossellini, Visconti, Blasetti). You will have a hard time deciding what to see first!
