This one time, at my apartment, a delivery fellow showed up during the Ashes while wearing an England cricket jersey, but he started speaking in what I mistook for an Australian accent. I said, "Wait, you support England?"

"No, I'm Kiwi, mate. I'll support anyone against Australia."

"Oh, right, sorry. So, Kiwis don't like Australians, then?"

"THEY'RE A BANCHA FAKKIN' CANTS."

It does not surprise me one bit that many members on this board are not in support of safer spaces and that straight, white males are unconcerned with what their "freedom of speech" means for people who have experienced real trauma.

Aren't there like 2-3 dilweeds arguing this out of dozens? I know you like to take on the world and all, but I don't think more than a couple fools who disagree with the basics here.

i can't speak for any kiwi pricks,
aussie pricks and kiwi cuntfaces are fairly similar ihomo in their use of good cunt etc.

although aussie boofheads tend to splash the cunt word around more liberally and psychotically due to being raised by dingoes on the farm
yeah well, youse cunts all grow up running around in bare feet and going swimming, without ever having to worry about being bitten or stung by anything lethal, so you tend to be soft cunts. although some of you are real staunch and theres some good pricks over there too, eh...maybe even you dawley san.

I have long maintained that the difference between Oz and Kiwi personalities can be greatly ascribed to the total lack of venomous creepy crawlies in NZ...

These words are supposed to be offensive.  Mostly to squares.  But they're fighting words for a reason, and there it is.

I don't have any dog in this etc., and mostly, I don't care.  But I want the good people to feel fine.  I want the shitty people to feel like shit.  But mostly, I want to be left alone.

I think one of the only good things about living here is that people won't put up with this shit.  And I've learned a lot from that.  I used to think provocative language was funny.  And still do.  But if it's at the offense of others, I don't.  And won't.  And that's the long & short of it.  If a marginalized group has a problem, it's their prerogative, and you have to give them that.  You don't have any ground to stand on.  This is not a good world and if "they" are "they"d, then you have to understand that.  I'm a white male who's broke as fuck and just as disenfranchised as etc.  But it ain't fair.  And you have you try to make it fair, I suppose.  I don't know.  Take it as it comes.  You can't defend "faggot."  Or "Last Sons of Kypton."  Even if you feel you are those things.

No doubt about it, stereotyping, censorship and good ol' fashioned bullying are neat for suppressing the opinions of the inferior, just ask the evil assholes of the world.

Although, there are some instances where it hasn't really worked, like when Kevin issued a veiled threat for someone saying Dio was the better singer and like when Kevin issued a veiled threat over the publishing of the Unwanted Christmas Presents interview. (There are also a couple of lesser known instances, such as Ghandi's response to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and Saladin's response to the Siege of Jerusalem.) (Christ, Kevin, you don't need a safe space; the rest of the world needs a safe space from you.)

Is reading the word "fag" or "faggot" or "poof" or "poofter" really worse than being threatened with violence? (Incidentally, reading the word "fag" likely isn't worse than being boofed up the rectum.)

The moderators here have banned and censored where they believe it applies (fair play: this isn't a public service), so I'm confident that if they believe any of you bad-ass tough-guy punk rockers need a safe space in the form of an online discussion forum, they will presumably provide one.

The key word here is squares. I agree that whoever feels threatened/offended and has a history of whatever should be comfortable, but I used to think the community of punks, misfits and outsiders was already a safe haven for anybody. And whoever didn't respect the individualities expressed within the community would have a hard time engaging with it.

I don't want to claim shit that I'm not a part of, so I'll state clearly that this is something I've observed as an outsider, I don't represent the people I'm talking about. There was this squat in Bologna, Italy, that has been recently closed down by the police after 18 years. Many of you know it and have played there, it was called Atlantide. To me, the best venue in Italy run by the best people in the scene. Now, this place wasn't only run by punks, it was 3 different collectives: an LGBTQ collective, a feminist collective, and the punks. They supported each other in their fights and their parties too. The LGBTQ people of Atlantide are angry and un-PC as fuck (I once went to a demonstration where they were claiming their role as freaks and "fags" and misfits, as opposed to the mainstream "oppenness" to LGBTQ people that just served the purpose of luring LGBTQ people into a conformist pattern and vote for the same old church-abiding conservative pigs): as a result, at Atlantide you could hear all kinds of offensive slurs thrown around, while being positive that you were in the safest and free-est space for any kind of people. This was also pretty much the only place in Italy where Alessandro from Grabbies/OWAB/Flyin' Trichecos was still admitted/welcome. God forbid places like this were policed by people who have no clue of how a community works and what the political agenda of the place is. Be careful what you wish for because "respect" and "freedom" are the favorite red herrings of the powers that be.

^ OK, I guess there are more assholes than I thought.

It's about learning/evolving. You can still fight idiocy (like the actual subject of this thread) and groupthink and whatever you want, just stop using certain marginalized-folks insults, especially if you're in a special position to use those words with no retribution. That is cowardice. That is scapegoating innocent groups of people just because it makes you feel better. Language alters thoughts and thought processes greatly. Everyone knows this, right? Fairly established from Chomsky on down, no?

If you respectfully talked to Kevin in real life, I'm sure the two of you (whichever two) could find common ground. Everyone here who knows Kevin knows this. To me, his approach to this online is more harmful than good - how is it ever going to do anything but more-firmly-entrench those he's trying to influence? But I feel like his heart is in the right place at least, and those "opposing" have their hearts...well...I'm not sure. Certainly one viewpoint is empathetic and the other, not.

Clearly the hugs and snuggles and safe place "marketing" is fucking gross and I want to punch it. But the idea itself is perfectly fine, as many are asking for it, so why does it threaten anybody?
