I still like Rip Offs, Loli & The Chones, Registrators, first The Brides 7" (KILLER!) and a few more but it is far between the spins at this point. Of the later releases on Rip Off it's only The Metros LP i still have in my collection, an underrated record wich holds up really well. Don't think "fun" is a selling point at all though, it isn't like you approve every other dolled up Exploding Hearts clone or sweaty cock rawker just because they promote fun 24/7?

Agree with that list pretty specifically, actually. I saw the Brides a bit before their first single, and they did a lot of (great!) covers, so I asked 'em where "Get to You" came from, as it was the best song of the night. They told me it was an original and would be on an upcoming single. Great record. I could probably dig up more I like (definitely Teenage Rejects and Captain 9), but that's a good core...along with Teengenerate and some other bands you don't think of as "Rip Off bands."

No love for the Atomsmashers outta Italy? I'm biased because I was kinda their mascot when I was starting to go to shows at 15-16. Had the greatest time at their shows but then, again, I was 15-16.

Don't think I ever bought it but used to have a single with Hiroshima Atomsurfers wich was the band before them. Met the singer at Rotterdam Rumble 2006, very funny and enthusiastic dude!

Atomsmashers were great live. On record, not so much.

That was, at the time, easily the worst Rip Off record. Or at least most derivative, which is saying something. Nth gen head-eats-tail shit, even at the time I couldn't believe Greg was releasing it. We got a pre-copy early on and laughed our arses off. Worse than worse than pop punk. Singer definitely took the barbs in stride and seemed like a good and good-humored dude.

Fugazi have always been a shit band. Some great songs here and there but it gets boring fast for me when you start telling me that I am doing something wrong because apparently you're more ''politicised'' than I am.

The Atomsmashers.  Damn.

The artwork on those later Rip Off releases is nearly unbelievable.

Fugazi's old stuff aged badly, Repeater and Steady Diet especially. Kill Taker is still really good, Red Medicine and End Hits are uneven but still interesting. I really dig The Argument. They were light years ahead every other post-core band which isn't saying much but they did help start that genre. DC scene and Dischord roster sounds really tired these days. I know it's not appreciated on these forums but they were A Big Thing around my parts. Touch And Go, too. Which reminds me - Shellac is so goddamn boring but they always were so..

Weird seeing NBT here as they had one good album and a decent singles collection. There was so little good stuff to age, really.

Pretty much all post-rock is unlistenable now. The Kentucky scene remains the only good thing about the genre. Post-metal (remember those guys?) aged hilariously bad as the fans sobered up, all the hype faded in like a year and labels like Hydrahead went under.

American psych scene from 2004 onwards. It doesn't help that Not Not Fun releases pure shit nowadays and 90% of psych musicians play techno or (worse) 70s revival now.

Later Reatard stuff aged badly and doubly so as it is aped by every single fucking 'garage' band these days.

when you start telling me that I am doing something wrong because apparently you're more ''politicised'' than I am.

When and where did that happen?

Are you asking me when Fugazi started being patronising or when I started feeling patronised by Fugazi?

Both, I guess? Mackaye can often be insufferably ''politicised'' but he's still better than Morrisey in that regard.

Fugazi always sucked, someone gave me a free ticket so i saw them.  Like Todd said, boring insufferable tepid indie rock.

Some of the 2000s Rip Off stuff was complete self parody and the artwork....oh man...Hanna Barbera

I don't know who's better or worse, to be honest, and I've never listened to any bands to inform my political opinions about anything anyway. If I get persuaded into certain aspects of politics by a band, it's likely that they follow a similar current of thought as mine. A band like The Fall could be lead by the leader of the BNP as far as I'm concerned.

Either that's a non-answer or my reading comprehension is shit today.

On topic: Thee Oh Sees. Hard to listen to them today, except maybe Sucks Blood and some songs from their Stonehouse sessions. Master's Bedroom didn't age well.
