Power pop as a genre has less and less appeal to me. Never was a superfan or anything but liked a fair share of it. Nowadays the acts I can stomach are fewer and fewer and lots of old favorites sound really weak. It,s a matter of taste but the less flattering aspects overshadows its appeal for me. Wimpy sound, whiny lyrics, generic tunes and so on. I like a whole lot of music with strong melodies like 60s pop and pop psych, folk, country etc but when it comes to power pop it usually just don't click with me. And yeah, there still are exceptions and all that jazz.

Dismemberment Plan

Hey there's mine. I was a kid, though.

I'm not sure I ever heard an Oh Sees record but I feel like they were opening every show I went to for a while, seemed pretty extremely dull.

I see certain eras of post-punk came up but how about pretty much all of post-rock? Post-rock was laughable, and seems even more so now.

Everyone else hated that Exploders more than me, haha...I was already burning out on the increasingly-similar RO sound at that point and it at least sounded different. Think I even played it a year or two ago and didn't hate it, though I don't exactly need it in the stacks, either. I think they were like the Atomsmashers in that Greg played with a band outside the country, liked 'em (as people? and as a live band), and signed 'em at that point even though they couldn't deliver a good record down the road and he put it out anyway.

I just looked at a list of every Shifters and Chronics songs ever, and could only recall Chronics "First Time Best Time," which is as stupid(not the good kind)/simple a song as you could unask for, but at least I remember it...a mediocre Jap-garage rip. Both remind me of the generic "punk" you'd often find on Pelado and the label Jim UMed ran.

I feel like everything I hate, I'll eventually end up liking...and vice versa.  Losing luster?  Just wait 4 years and you'll be moderately impressed again.  Or not.  It's only a matter of time before I end up liking The Eagles and hating everything else.

Greg's hinted at a new band (potentially w/ Elka) in recent months.

YOU FUCKING PHILISTINE.

Worst Rip Off Records:

1 - Exploders 7"
2 - Atomsmashers LP
3 - Atomsmashers 7"
4 - Chronics 7"
5 - Shifters 7"

The Chronics single was ok, generic but not terrible....same goes for the Shifters, total wallpaper punk but not embarassing

The true bottom of the barrel are the Dirty Sweets LP, Atomsmashers LP, Suspicions LP, Shop Fronts LP, the 2nd and 4th Zodiac Killers LP

Also the Oh Sees we're always boring to me.  The progenitors of diet psych.  No tunes at all.  Live show was boring, I never got the appeal.  I saw them live outside once and was so bored, I started throwing bottle caps at Dwyer's head during their set.  He was not pleased....

Not so into Blood Visions anymore, I prefer the early solo singles over the album especially the Goner one.

MOTO has some funny songs but overall most of the catalog is meh to me.  Never got how into them some folks were.

Really? I love The Plan all 4 lps are great. There was a time, early 00's when all I played for months was them and Melt Banana. Mind you the early 00's were fucking terrible.
If everybody skates a lot and goes to a lot of shows,
everything's gonna be alright, ok?

Dirty Sweets. Jesus. Deserve billing "over" Chronics, at least. The spin-off that played the Blackout when one of 'em shit the couch (Winks?) were even worse. Shawn/Shaun/Sean (don't remember) from Dirty Sweets was a pretty cool dude and he did a few slightly better bands after.

Power pop as a genre has less and less appeal to me.

Most power pop records are more sexist than gangsta rap.

When it comes to later DC I far prefer listening to Dismemberment Plan than Fugazi. Thank fuck The Plan didn't end up on Dischord.

Dismemberment Plan is the ur-example of abysmally bad pitchfork-approved indie. Their definition of edge was playing Jennifer Page covers.

The Oh Sees had some great tunes. Problem is, they're so spread out around all the albums with mediocre material that it becomes hard to see.
