I usually avoid fests, but I'm trying to figure out going to this one.

Cropped Out is bar none the best festival experience I've ever had.  I hope the inclusion of The Fall this year doesn't this to the attention of the normal indie festival demographic (who will probably be surprised to find out that Mark E Smith has gone full meth mouth and doesn't play anything from the 80s albums)...it's usually a bunch of weirdos!

i'll second this. i hate festivals, but my cropped out experience was great. a friend at work today called it "bonnaroo for people who like (good) weird music" ok thats not what it is. but its so nice to be outside and experience so much weird shit at a softball complex....i really hope its still there.

I wanna go. This and Big Ears are the only fests I pine for each year. I gave up on ever making it to Goner like a decade ago.

Where are the afterparties and where should Maximum Ernst set up to play said afterparty?

There are definitely after parties. When I was leaving my motel one year at 5:30am there was a blonde in a towel on her door stoop smoking a cigarette.

making the trip this year any recommendations for record stores/places to eat/stay near the fest? or anything of general interest in Louisville we're coming from Canada and would love to get a feel for the city and take in as much as we can.

any advice is much appreciated!  8)
