I feel like I should state that MRR sucks massive cock and is almost always not worth reading but I keep coughing up $5 every month in hopes that there is at least one okay article or review of a band that doesn't suck.

Also, I write a lot about records on my Instagram. I didn't intend to solicit stuff for review, but people have started sending it anyway, so I'll write about stuff I like and lots of people seem to read it. MRR hate is silly in 2017. Trying to score cool points by parroting contrarian views from a quarter century ago are LAME.

It is STILL one of the only places to read about new punk records from all over the world. It STILL features excellent photography and art. It STILL has good columns. It is STILL one of the only regular zines that YOU can contribute to. If you are whining about or hating MRR you are STILL a poser.

The fact that a large independent print zine created by volunteers from all over the globe can STILL exist in this day and age is incredible.

MRR has been going strong since 1982. I fully support them; it's an institution at this point and if you run a label, you can still run (kind of) cheap ads in a national mag.

MRR is great right now, thanks in no small part to the excellent leadership currently steering things.  I'm inspired by them, anyway, and I'm the laziest, shittiest person on Earth.  I could see how/why many folks inhabiting Termbo's island would've paid little/no attention in the last decade-plus, but it's currently the best it's been at any point post-Tim, particularly in the features + reviews section.

For people who aren't refreshing their browsers every 5 seconds on big cartels, tumblrs, message boards etc....MRR is such a great resource to keep up with modern punk/hardcore. Sure it's not definitive, nor would they ever claim that. They review everything they receive, so if you are a punk and feel unrepresented send your records, tapes, zines, opinions, interviews in.

the complaints I have and people I know have around the publication don't center around the reviewers or the work ethic but rather the cliquey "it's more important who you know" type of shit it has going on.

That's silly. Send in a scene report or an interview or maybe even a guest column.
