Best Pawn Shop Gear Finds.
« on: July 22, 2017, 04:48:23 PM »
Was going shopping for an amp with my friend yesterday and found a bunch of cool stuff for cheap at various pawn shops around town the "pawn shop guitar" cliche is so true. What's the best thing you've found in a pawn shop/good stories of getting things out of the pawn shop.

I caught the local guitar prick off guard one day and scored a Danelectro U2 for like fity' bucks. Dude just got it in and was feeling generous.

Besides that, my experience with guitar shit has been horrible. $1000-2000 vintage guitars galore. Everybody wants top dollar for everything. The thrift store near my house regularly gets in ten watt practice amps and charges $200 plus bucks for them. Literally, more than they cost new. What's crazy is that people actually buy them....

Nobody will believe me, but around 8 years ago I got an original late 60s Fuzz Face at a pawn shop in Texas for $20.  They said it didn't work - I took it home and put a new battery in it, and it worked great.  Kept it for a while, then sold it on eBay a few years back for $700.

Other pawn scores that I still own:

Acoustic 150 head with matching 2x15 cab, $125

Fender Prosonic head, $300

ive read so many stories like this. usually regarding monophonic synthesizers that will be sold "as is" because the seller thinks it should be capable of playing chords. im never so lucky. i was present one time when a (ex) gf of mine found a rev1 omnichord at a thrift store for like $10.

which is this thing for those unfamiliar:

pretty sure one is played on spits song black and blue

Nice score.  It almost looks like it says 'Omnichoad' on it, haha!

Snap-on 3/8" X 7/16" line wrench for 50 cents. I use it about three times a week at the garage.

do it, it's absolutely the most overrated and most misused sunn amp. 75% of the time i've seen one on stage the guy has a guitar tone I could only describe as CKY-esque

Best score it got was a 1974 Telecaster Custom for $500. Best guitar I've ever played.

I've lost two guitars to pawn shops.
