Prob'ly the only way to make money off Spotify if you're not getting thousands of plays is to: a)get on playlists and boost your numbers that way, or b)have somebody like your music well enough to use it in a movie or videogame soundtrack.

i dont really care about making money.  i dont really care about much.  i do almost no advertising, almost no promotion whatsoever.  not really complaining, either.  just figured i would post the numbers as a joke and to let people see what a crappy band like us does.

we're weekend warriors with a steady trickle of gigs and bandcamp revenue that allows us to continue releasing too many records.  i was thinking last night, if i died right now, would the people who love me get together and put out one last single, of the songs i recorded in the last couple weeks.

probably, and thats both stunningly pathetic and beautiful all at the same time...

this other guy named Matt Farley has 14,000 short, crappy songs on Spotify and he makes 20k a year off it. I think a lot of the plays come from people accidentally clicking his songs

You sound a little unhinged though. I don't know your history, but I saw you acting goofy on youtube. You're like a punkier Crispin Glover.

You have people who love you, so it can't be all bad.

It's all good dude.

You're oversharing a bit. It comes with the territory (mental health / addiction issues). You don't owe anyone an explanation.

I personally have pink flags shoot up anytime somebody tells a sob story, I start to question their motives for sharing. Not necessarily with you, just saying, you may want to hold onto some of your truth.

FWIW I'd like to see a partial list of bands you've interacted with. All I know of you is that clip of you on the Jenny Jones show, and I saw Jay Reatard argue with you on these forums. Why'd he call you 'officer Officer Brad'? Is that a band you were in?

I think you may have Officer Officer Brad X confused with Rev. Norb, who is the front man of his band and was on Jenny Jones.

I listen to everything on youtube. If you don't care about the fidelity, it's perfect. Any new band I have heard of on here that sounds interesting I look up on youtube. If it ain't there, I don't hear it.

This is also how all the younger people I talk to listen to music. Remember: if it's mainstream, you also get a video with it. Most of the conversations I have online with people consist of 60% texting and 40% youtube links. Facebook, Youtube and pornography are the internet. I don't think people even fully comprehend how massive it is.
yup, I could not have said it better myself. I do not buy things off bandcamp unless it is pay what you want, and I torrent stuff and buy records but other than that youtube is the main thing I'm on the way to work,at work, out walking, at the store etc. Totally convenient. And yes, I am 20 and this what everyone I know my age do and people who are a lot older do as well. I do not have any time for internet music services and fuck no I'm not paying for a digital copy of a record. That is the dumbest shit ever.
