i hope mark zuckerberg instates euthanasia at age 40 when he becomes president so i dont have to read this shit about "young people and their social media"

But as a young inquisitive punk rocker, you really should be thinking critical of media on all levels and in all forms...Besides, punk was rebelling against music that was basically only 10 years old...young punks today are trying to ape music from 30 years ago...

good

television destroyed a generation and so did the invention of the printing press and the radio.  this marks the 900th ruined generation.  what destroyed your generation?

Yeah, tv, and more specifically Reagan's deregulation of it on many levels...

While seeing it all as a path to destruction does match the theory of entropy, I need to put my McLuhan hat on tighter and avoid value judgments...but it is extremely important to try to understand how the form of the dominant media shapes society - social values, norms, attitudes and behaviors. And really, we are moving from social media being dominant to AI or a borglike mix of social media and AI being the dominant media...sorry, far afield from the OP and we may be entering a, shudder, "political" realm.

I don't begrudge the kids their social media, but it is funny to think about how quickly things changed. When I was a kid in the 90's, the main things we had in our house were a television and a landline phone. This wasn't much different from the house my dad would have grown up in in the 50's. The only real difference was the smut being channeled in on cable TV (a huge difference, to be sure).

There was also a VCR in the house, which could bring in porn and various Blockbuster movies.

It's amazing how instantly things switched over.

is there an age range in particular where someone is a kid?

cuz the lumpy/coneheads scene in chicago -is- based in Bridgeport (and Pilsen) and probably has an average age of about 25

MTV's stated age demographic is 18-35.

25, to me, is still a kid.

Wait, what? Wouldn't the Jimmy Rockers in Chicago be based in NWI- it's like 20 miles away. I know, I know local pride, but c'mon... and Bridgeport, are they playing Rancho or sumpin'?

As far as 25 goes, a 25 year old considers 18 year old kids. An 18 year old considers 14 year olds kids. The only difference is not may 14 year olds go to punk shows, so the kiddest kids at a punk show are usually in high school.
