I do also know a lot of 25 year old people who haven't dated much and just basically live on the internet. So I dunno how thrilling their youth will be to look back on when they are say, 38. But I guess that's the dark side of the internet.

You mean they ain't fucking? Maybe they're just fucking in different ways? Maybe they don't even care about fucking... that would be really cool, except it would mean that their generation won't have a younger generation to not understand... which might actually make them the coolest... which would mean martian cyber-archaeologists in 2525 are going to sum up Earth music of the 2000-2050 era as Lil Uzi Vert and K-pop... that is until they discover a Mad Nanna 7" which will be written off as some sort of Cardiff Giant (which is real by the way)

Ya like not fucking. I know a 25 year old kid that has never dated anybody, doesn't leave the house, and just talks to people online. There are probably a bunch of kids out there like that. I also talk to a 22 year old virgin who is waiting for "the one". See, I think the "hook up generation" shit is all hype. A lot of these kids are net junkies who don't go out and fuck or do drugs or anything. They live really clean cut, almost straight edge lives and just hang out online.

I'm basing this off a small group of young people I talk to, so who knows? But that has been my experience.

ps- Now that I think about it, I have read a few articles recently claiming that whole thing is media hype, and that kids are having less sex now than previous generations.

But who knows, man.

I think what you're saying about the "current" generation is true, but I think "hookup culture" is real, but it's an "advancement" from our generation's going to bars and hooking up with people while drunk. Hookup apps allow people to bypass the drunken dance and allows people to soberly say who they are interested or not and then potentially, at least in theory, set boundaries and navigate desires and expectations in advance. I'd imagine that helps eliminate some of the hurt feelings and trauma that happen when people randomly hook up wasted. It seem foreign to me, and I'm skeptical of it, and I feel there undoubtedly unanticipated consequences of these changes, but in principle, the idea makes a lot sense to me, especially in light of people awakening to the idea of rape culture.

Yeah, I hear you. It allows them to bypass the bar scene. Which also then allows them to bypass the drunkenness. You maybe go over to their house, watch a movie. It seems safer than some of the drunken shit I did as a kid.

I'm sure there are a ton of hook up app rapes. For sure some kids are getting fucked up and zonked out on fentanyl vape pens or whatever it is they do before they sex up too. That said, sexing without judgement or feelings or caring or whatever is advancement.

The internet junkie not going outside not dating not having real friends thing would explain the rise of fascism though.

I think fashion wise kids nowadays are in general pretty retro- I walked through the periphery of Loolapaloozer this summer and it looked like a tweaked version of 1989 for the ladies... and the dudes... fucking shorts, t shirts and ballcaps. Honky dudes have basically been rocking the same summer look for 25 years...

Kids gotta do better with their clothes. Fashion is bland as hell- unoriginal, passe, boring... some of these dudes could be 2017 or 2007 or 1997 or ALMOST 1987

Also, what's up with the peace sign? Every young girl in a selfie you see flashes this like, sarcastic peace sign to the camera. Or does fish lips. Or has one of these doggie apps that puts a dog nose and ears over her. It's weird.

I think the big difference is that most kids under say 22 grew up with a high powered computer in their pocket at all times, right. That is significant I think.

Man... fuddy duddys... look, I'm trying to understand the kids... I like them, but this forum might as well be a donut shop full of old white dudes, right?

I think fish lips is dying out. The sarcastic peace sign is actually apropos- it sums up 2017 pretty good.

I know someone this happened to, but I think it's out of touch to suggest that "safety" isn't a prime motivator for hook up apps. I don't think it has anything to do with the younger generations being any more hedonistic.

Also, yes, I know a lot of young people for whom sex seems a lot more outwardly complicated than the folks that I grew up with who were largely themselves struggling with their own identities, traumas etc... though I think that has more to do with people's ability to discuss and confront things that our generations largely avoided.

I think kids are less hedonistic- I've worked in low income schools in Chicago for 15 years. Kids smoke less tobacco to the point where it is rarely seen, they drink way less beer, and less liquor, there are far fewer pregnancies, and I see far fewer used condoms laying around... for real... I think casual blowjobs are more common... they def smoke more weed though, although that is society as a whole... way more pills too... social media beefs are a thing... I dunno... I think I see more insularity and fewer groups of friends... maybe I just pay less attention...

The anti-tobacco movement has made huge strides with these people. Those "be the generation that ends smoking" Truth commercials air on MTV every five minutes. They've done a really good job with that, IMO.
