Kino - 45 (This band is so amazing. I sometimes forget to listen to them for extended periods because they're the classic Soviet "alternative" band. They're probably comparable to Nirvana in America, only they started in the late 70s and early 80's. The singer was in a tragic car accident or something that ended up taking his life which made their dark sound seem kind of prophetic in the way the death of the frontman has for many western rock bands. This album, their first is real bare bones. Acoustic guitars, hand percussion, foot stomping, weird horns in the distance and vocals. It's so sparse and rich at the same time. Anyway, shortly after this they did Natchalic Kamchatka, which would have alot of those minimal synth people going nuts if they heard it. The Pink Reason song New Violence owes a huge stylistic debt to that album. This band is also the reason why Alex from the Feelers learned how to play guitar.)
(edit: I keep on forgetting that Alex once told me that they released a power-pop album too and I keep meaning to check it out. I think it's called Grupa Krovi (Blood Type) or something like that?)
