On my way to a gig right now crying like a baby in the car. Playing the same venue I saw him at more than a decade ago. He meant so much to me . more than just his music and more than I can articulate right now . RIP Roky.

The man was a legend. Not looking forward to Tommy's inevitable eventual passing. That, for me, will be the hardest.

Really sad to hear this. The Velvets and the Elevators are my favourite groups of all time. I loved them so much.
When I first went online in the early '00s, Roky was the first thing I searched for, bootleg, live recordings, anything, eBay. Found the Texas Psych online forum and grabbed everything they had, CD-R sharing first, then DLs.
Thanks to the Thanes guy who lent me the Easter Everywhere LP in the 80's. Ashamed to say I handed it back saying I didn't get it. Luckily I made a cassette copy anyway, and in the coming months had my ears rearranged and my mind blown. Vodka and weed probably helped. Just fucking mythic. As Cope said, they played so hard. Found it sweet you could hear his love for Buddy Holly come through. Texan giants both.

The Elevators blew my mind as a (relatively) young kid starting to explore music beyond heavy metal and punk rock. Years later, the discovery of his solo stuff did it once again, not in terms of expanding my horizons but on the strength of its inherent greatness. A soundtrack for life, forever indebted to this man.

Truly a heavy loss.

Heavy shit. Big 13th Floor fan, but also really dug into his solo shit as an adult. Sad news.

Rest in Peace Roky.
I presume he is riding around the netherworld on a two-headed dog.
His solo shows still stick with me as some of my favorites.
It was such an immediate and engaging experience. One of a kind.
