I'm glad to see Bobby is still doing this. I met him like 16 years ago outside of a club: he for some reason wandered over like two hours early. Very nice guy, but looked super beat up by life. Actually looks healthier now.

the weird thing to me is how he was probably the best guitarist the misfits ever had, and nobody knows who he is.  he started the undead right when he left misfits, so he's been at it "awhile".  his old buddies in the band are selling out madison square garden, and he's in green bay on a friday night playing for 30 people.  even marky ramone gets better gigs, lol.

i've been listening to those records my whole life, and its weird to think about the guy who played on that stuff playing a room i have played to many more people.  i give him a damn lot of credit for writing some decent material after the misfits and sticking to it, when he couldve given up long ago.

its just another thing that leads me to believe, no matter what i accomplish in life, i would never be satisfied.  i imagine if i was one of the misfits, who was there crafting those songs in the late 70s, and here it is 40 years later and they have all that success.  i would be so pissed.

it also makes me thankful for what i have.  how cool is it that i can make all these great videos of these legendary performers, and i also get to perform myself for (small) audiences that actually give a shit what i am doing?

Yeah, is there some weird anti-Bobby sentiment among Misfits fans? The context I saw him in was just doing an onstage appearance with Sloppy Seconds for the "Where Eagles Dare Cover", and all these dick kids where yelling at him and mocking him. No clue what it was about; quite lame. He's a nice guy.

back in the 90s he took the band/danzig to court for royalties on the unboxed set and collections.  danzig claimed he overdubbed the guitar parts, but he wasnt that good of a player, so its basically an impossibility, plus even cursory listening reveals that the tracks havent been changed.

the other thing i remember is supposedly he told jerry or doyle "i'll kill your whole family" so theyre like "fuck this guy" haha

i dont know.  but he did play on most of their best stuff, all those early singles, and he's been out there working clubs with some version of the undead ever since.  and very few people give a shit.  but they'll pack madison square garden to watch doyle absolutely butcher those tunes, with "acey slade" behind a curtain playing bobby steele's guitar parts.

if i was bobby, i'd have a HUGE chip on my shoulder, thats all i am saying.

The first thing was Horror business.  Then we did Night of the
Living Dead.  At each of these sessions, we recorded enough tracks to make
an LP, but used only the best tracks for the EPs.  The next sessions were
for an LP that eventually became Walk Among Us.  What they wound up as were
the Halloween and 3 Hits from Hell 45s.  On the 20 song LP, The Misfits, I
played on "Horror Business", "Teenagers From Mars", "Night of the Living
Dead", "Vampira",  "I Turned Into a Martian", "Skulls", "London Dungeon",
"Ghoul's Night Out", and "Astro Zombies".  Some of these tracks were from
the 45s, while others were from the original Walk Among Us sessions.  I
think the material from the original Walk Among Us were, by far, the best
recordings we ever did.  that was the tightest lineup we ever had.  that
was with Arthur Googy on drums.  It was the first time that we worked with
a real producer.  He never got the credit, but his name was Robbie Alter.
He played guitar in the IAN HUNTER BAND.  He was the one who was
responsible for all the great sounds on "London Dungeon".  He played a lot
of the subtle feedback on that one.  He also came up with the accents on
the chorus.

In August 1980, the Misfits recorded twelve songs at Master Sound Productions studios with the intention of releasing a full-length album. The band's lineup at this time included singer Glenn Danzig, guitarist Bobby Steele, bassist Jerry Only, and drummer Arthur Googy. During the sessions Only was grooming his younger brother Doyle to join the band, and Doyle recorded his own guitar tracks and overdubs separately in addition to Steele's. The tracks were mixed in September, but in October Steele was ejected from the band in favor of Doyle and the planned album was scrapped. Five of the songs were released in 1981, with "London Dungeon", "Horror Hotel", and "Ghouls Night Out" being released as 3 Hits from Hell while the "Halloween" single included both "Halloween" and "Halloween II". The band used the remainder of the recordings as demos for their 1982 album Walk Among Us.

The Misfits broke up in 1983, but after a series of legal battles in the late 1980s and early 1990s Only and Doyle regained the rights to record and perform as the Misfits, sharing merchandising rights with Danzig, who holds writing credits on all of the Misfits material written between 1977 and 1983. Only and Doyle formed a new incarnation of the band and released two albums during the 1990s. During the intervening years several of the tracks from the August 1980 sessions were released in various mixes on compilation albums: "Halloween" appeared on Legacy of Brutality (1985), "Night of the Living Dead", "Vampira", "Skulls" and "Astro Zombies" appeared on Misfits (1986), and "Horror Hotel", appeared on Collection II (1995). The Misfits box set (1996) contained the most complete collection of songs from these sessions, collecting the complete Legacy of Brutality, Misfits, and Collection II albums as well as a disc of unreleased studio recordings including the original mixes of "I Turned into a Martian", "Skulls", "Night of the Living Dead", "Astro Zombies", "Where Eagles Dare", "Violent World", and "Halloween II" from the 1980 sessions.

In 2001, Caroline Records announced that they would be releasing the complete 1980 sessions on October 30 under the title 12 Hits from Hell, including an alternate take of "London Dungeon", and sent promotional copies of the album to the band members. However, production was called off after Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only expressed concerns with the album's layout, packaging, liner notes, mixing, and mastering. All distribution copies of the album were destroyed, and only the promotional copies remain.

Bobby Steele (main guitarist on the album): he would like the album released as is. He is convinced that the only reason Jerry Only wants to re-mix the album is so they can cut out his guitar playing. When the album was originally planned for release, Bobby's guitar tracks were the main focus of the new album. His guitar tracks created the primary sound of the album. Bobby says if a re-mix occurs, most likely his guitar tracks will be taken out of the mix, or that Doyle's guitar track will become the dominant guitar in the recording. This may seem strange to some people, but it's not that strange when you consider the history of the Misfits. To this day Bobby and Jerry have never made peace. They do not get along. Originally Bobby was kicked out of the Misfits. It is rumored that according to Jerry Only the reason that Bobby was kicked out of the band was because of his terrible guitar playing. Bobby says that this album showcases his great guitar work and he is convinced that it will finally prove to Misfits fans that the rumors were false. It is also rumored that it is extremely hard to deal with Bobby Steele, some say he lives in the past too much and that it creates irritation to the other Misfits members.

While with The Misfits, he performed on the Horror Business, Night of the Living Dead and 3 Hits from Hell EPs and his playing can also be heard on the Beware and Halloween EPs as well as the "missing" Misfits album 12 Hits from Hell.[2] After being replaced in October 1980 by Jerry Only's younger brother Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Steele formed The Undead with Chris Natz and Patrick Blanck. The band released their debut EP, 9 Toes Later, in 1982, which Glenn Danzig helped finance.

Yeah, but could you imagine being such an asshole 21 year old Misfits fan that YOU TOOK THIS PERSONALY and decided to wave shit at him and mock him when he went onstage at a Sloppy Seconds concert? It was the weirdest thing I ever saw in my life: he just stood there singing and pretended nothing was happening. I've seen a ton o' shit at punk shows in my life, but that was a humdinger.
