Sigh...It certainly isn't a board looking for hair-splitting definitions of "punk" and "indie"...Did you have a look around before joining? Have you looked at the "zine" at all? If you did, you would have figured out that shitty opinions about The Fall would get heavy push-back...

I just don’t understand how you can have such a strong opinion about a pretty complicated band when you’re championing the most bland era of the Descendents.

These guys may get you more:

Please explain to me what’s complicated about talking over a boring riff.

I don’t get why you’re getting so frustrated, lol. I looked around and took note of the tone and guess what. It didn’t seem like this was the place where people keep controversial opinions about bands to themselves because the majority might disagree with them. In fact it seems like people are constantly trying to challenge each other with their music opinion and people often hold controversial opinions about music and then have discussions about it and sometime they disagree. And I’m here to have those debates like everyone else (in the past). Everybody has their own opinion (please don’t misinterpret that last sentence to mean I’m a huge Jane’s Addiction fan, that seems like something you might do).

I’m also not surprised by the pushback to my Fall opinions. I don’t know what gave you that idea.

yeah, no, but yeah, anything goes here nada es verboten except politics, and the mighty wind that blows things to Pop Punk or worse Worse than Pop Punk known as MOTHER but I don't have music opinions I have loves and likes and a complex spectrum of feelings that music evokes. There are no "debates" ffs, their has just been a ton of silly pre-Reddit shit-talking and exchanges. The amount of great "tuneage" the folks here have turned me onto here is mind-boggling actually.
Sorry if I have inferred your musical likes and dislikes. I like and love a ton of shit that many here evidently "despise" such as, well, for example, bandanna rawk was how I think Horizontal Action once described Jeff Dahl.  :P so call me a pussy for not actively stanning for the great Kevin K here, but I might say comment in the now playing thread "Blasting the Kosmik Boogie Tribe and getting stoned on a stormy Friday afternoon!" but really find no need to say something, like, "you know what, KBT are really so much better than Pavement" ~ I'd be right but nah...
And rmber "Boredom" plays into this place A LOT! At least it used to/// Things have kinda migrated to the FB Budget Rock group and even though people "get away" with posting The Fall there, it just ain't the same...

Not sure about the Janes Addiction ref anyhow...Saw them a few times when they were just getting started in LA ~ someone had actually hyped them with an MC5 reference ~ in 1986! But nah, just a jumbled mess of pretension.....

ETA: Just to circle back, the early Descendants and for me, even Milo Goes to College are good to great with a ton of nostalgia mixed in and even re:The Fall, I have voiced my feelings that listening to The Fall Peel boxset gives you a great overview of how they inarguably (haha) fell off music-wise at some point although managed to keep things interesting enough to sometimes give a post-1990 album a spin. I guess one could maybe might possibly argue that Mark E. Smith is one of the greatest lyricists of all time because asses in classes and it is time to study...

fuggitt, time to spin The Infotainment Scan on a peaceful Sunday night...God Bless and God Speed...

I’m glad you didn’t get the Jane’s Addiction reference. I was afraid you would recognize “everybody has their own opinion” as a lyric from Mountain Song and jump to all sorts of conclusions like you did with Refused. And what was your original point about Refused again? Oh yeah nothing along the lines of "you know what, KBT are really so much better than Pavement" right?

Nothing wrong in my world with a little bit of Jeff Dahl.

I’m learning that the Fall is the indie band punks listen to so they can feel like they’re smart.

This is what I'd imagine a dumb person would say to think they sound smart.

But are you a Fall fan? That might heavily skew your perception of what’s smart and dumb.

Based on yr interminable journal posts here & the music you've shared, I don't think anyone is accepting you as an arbiter of what is smart & dumb.

So are you a Fall fan or not? That’s going to be crucial in determining whether or not I should take you seriously.

See, you have to understand I don't really give a shit what some dude who talks about terrible 2000's garage rawk and how sober he is on a message board thinks about me.

It’s hard to know for sure, but you definitely act like a Fall fan.

The name “sloweducation” is another possible tell that we’re dealing with a Fall fan here.
