it probably is. But "Frenz" was my first Fall album. Oswald Defense Lawyer was my gateway track to this band adn as such = colossal stiffy time

and am not so sure about The Real New Fall.

I love it when bands fuck with stage people. I'm sorry for them but it's too funny. I remember seeing Jesus Lizard once: David Yow would kick the mic stand to the ground, and this young guy would come out of the side of the stage and run and stand it back up, and as soon as he would turn his back Yow would kick it back down. i don't care if you or anyone else like the fall or whoever i might like. why would i? its not mandatory. i don't give a fuck. i am interested tho, in how/why two people can hear the same thing and perceive it completely differently. like, you said somewhere on here that the saints are probably your favourite band. i fucking love the first 3 saints lp's too...but do we like them for the same reasons and get similar things from them? i dunno. i kinda doubt it, but i dunno.

I’m with you on the first three albums. I would say that the first four are perfect. The band’s peak. I love the progression on these. “Eternally” would be my favorite from the lot with “Stranded” very close behind. Just so classic. I love the vocals, so cool and unaffected. I love the sound. Punk, but you can hear some hot garage influence bubbling underneath. I love how ahead of the times they were and to think they were coming up with this sound around the same time as the Ramones were doing there thing, but on the other side of the planet. I love that they seem like regular unpretentious guys. I love the message of freedom in the music.

Now here’s the part that will come back to bite me in the ass once I write that I kind of don’t like some sacred cow band on this board. The personal attacks on me are going to be nonstop for admitting this. But I like the later Saints too. And I like Chris Bailey solo. I think this has some thing to do with my former comic book collecting obsession. It really taught me completism. The fact is I can find good moments on any Saints release.

I won’t get into how I discovered the Saints. That would lead to more personal attacks. Let’s just say I was happy to stumble upon a cassette copy of “Eternally Yours” not expecting too much out of it. Let’s just say I was slightly enamored with the 21+ punk scene in the late 90’s and these guys were one of their secret idols.

Thank allah this thread has moved beyond Mike Ness' coffee and whatnot, with obligatory Misfits ref along the way natch, to more worthy subjects, "punk" or not siriusly who gives a phugggg...No one will personally attack you for liking later "Saints"  but maybe question your hearing....ha and ha. I remember liking that Nothing is Straight in my House album with the Church's geetarist, not that it mattered to me but it definitely had some good dynamic playing. But soon after I gained "access" to The Aints and Laughing Clowns and Ed Kuepper solo stuff and it, well, is magnitudes more interesting and compelling than the Chris Bailey stuff but ya know YMMV just opinion not argument...

Yeah I regretted not mentioning Kreupper after hitting post. Love him to death, though maybe slightly less than Bailey. But the Laughing Clowns is really up there for me. I don’t like it as much as the Saints but it’s by far the best Saints related project.

And I wholeheartedly admit that something was lost when Kreupper left the group. I don’t think the band went to shit, but imagine what they could have been if he had stayed on. A pal of mine from Australia put together these fantasy albums of what the Saints could have sounded like if Kreupper had stayed  but they’re essentially mixes of what he considers to be the best Saints related stuff throughout the 80’s and 90’s. So like on “Monkey Puzzle” he takes out the Saints songs he hates and replaces with his fave early ep songs from Laughing Clowns. And it just goes on like that from there. Wish I still had them as they were fun and interesting.
