I've mostly been trying to get through this thick bio on Sartre which is insightful and slightly biased, but makes him like more of a man than myth to me and then outside of that I've read bits and pieces from A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do again by David Foster Wallace, today I listened to some snippets from Peter Sotos books on youtube, good stuff.

i've been trying to get through all your old posts but they're so mind numingly boring that i think i'll stop here.

It's really exciting and empowering going through peoples post histories on a message board isn't it? You are a very special person. I'm so happy to cross paths with you.  ;)

Great books but incredibly dense. The fact that almost nothing is repeated and important stuff are played in the background is remarkable. I have picked up about 5 more Gene Wolfe books but I am reluctant to start them. Summer is Elmore Leonard season(an equally great writer).

"Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked". Really good look at how games, phones and social media platforms are designed to make us compulsive. Think: Las Vegas casino slot machines. The really scary parts of this book are about fully immersive virtual reality, which is coming in the future. No doubt will be driven by porno. Interesting read.

Just finished John Darnielle's Universal Harvester and really enjoyed it. I love the atmosphere he created in this one, and the end took my head for a spin. I also have This is Memorial Device and can't wait to start it, been hearing good things.

"The Nature Fix", a new book about how neuroscience and shit like that is proving that being in nature is good for us. Not sure you need science (or this book) to tell you that, but it's got some interesting tidbits about forest bathing in Japan and whatnot.

the only writing of his i enjoyed reading. but i was 18 when i read it and was fairly stupid and easily impressed with things i barely understood. i dont think i got it but stuff like sartre' nausea seem to mean a whole lot more to someone college aged because they're looking for affirmation that society should be questioned. judging by the amount of bookmarks mine has i must have found a fair number of the passages poetic, eloquent, beautiful, who knows... and those aren't words i typically associate with sartre's writing. as a child , looking at my mother's copy. the cover art fascinated me.

for the record, i mean in 2017 sartre's novels are probably more appealing to a young person not his more hardcore philosophical shit (for which nauseau is obviously an introduction to)
