This thread is stupid.

I'm a girl and I go to shows.  Lots of them.  Maybe your friend just doesn't like hanging out with you...
no one's having fun but me

that would have been funny if the point wasn't that this chick wanted him to choose between shows and her.

truth is, way more guys go to shows than girls and it depends on the city you're speaking of as to how many girls go at all and for the most part, bitches are fucking stupid.

the assumptions about women & music that get thrown around this board are so idiotic. i know they are based on guys' personal observations and frustration with their town's shrinking mating pool but the conclussions are so skewed by geography, demographics, style of music, etc. that it is stupid to make any generalizations about such things. And god forbid a woman chime in to counter what you have already decided is so: they are told their opinion doesnt count, that they dont know what they are talking about, that they are a freak. I'd say no wonder why women stay away from the music scene, if not for the fact that since I've been going to shows (the late 70s), the mix of women and men at most rock shows have been pretty much equal. Yes, I'd see more men at Slayer shows. But I'd see more women at a Modest Mouse show. On a standard rock & roll show in Sacramento or SF, the mix is 50/50 and it has been that since I can remember. I see more men in bands, that is true but that is different than attending shows. And so a woman does not collect at the same rate as her male counterpart, but is that really the gauge of how much she is into music? So she doesnt go to every show? Is that really a measure? No, there are far too many things to consider other than hording behavior and social activity. This "oh where are thou chicks!" train of thought isnt annoying because it is sexist or biggoted or anything, but because it is so fucking shallow and moronic and the conclusion - chicks just aint into music like guys are - is unfathomably stupid.

I don't think that many people on here assume very much about cocks/cunts/chords.

Clint,

Stop PLAYING armchair sociologist/psychologist. You're not GOOD at it. It's what got you in TROUBLE last time you posted on forums on a REGULAR basis. Just talk WITH people like a NORMAL person RATHER than whipping up these ELABORATE pseudo-sociological manifestos to DEFINE them. Everyone can RELATE to getting dumped, but your sweeping GENERALIZATIONS do nothing but alienate the very girls whose lack of attendance at shows you are lamenting.

Also, for the love of PETE, please cut the cap LOCKS key off of your keyboard.

Just saw this and you're dead right. I've been guilty of this from time to time, and it's rooted in a myopia that can't see past personal prejudice and projections of frustrations.

what is this, fucking teen magazine? save the enigmatic advice columns for dear abby, and leave the board for what really matters. THE ROCK AND ROLL.

Nope, it's not unfathomly stupid, it's accurate.  You even contradict yourself within the space of the post when you at first say the "shows you go to" are roughly 50/50 male female, but THEN, later you admit that women in general don't go to as many shows as guys do:"So she doesnt go to every show? Is that really a measure?"

YES, things like number of shows attended and records purchased/listened to are THE way to measure how much of a music fan someone is.

And you talk about demographics being skewed and people not being able to see beyond that, well sir, that applies to YOU more directly than anyone else.  You live in an area with a super high percentage of lesbians; i.e.women who generally have no trouble competing in fields that are classically male dominated.  And the fact that there are so many strong, leading type women just serves to influence the rest of the female populous to do the same.   Everybody else doesn't have that.  We still have a whole fuck of a lotta victimized, submissive women.... It sucks

And when and where exactly are we/I telling women that their opinion doesn't count anymore than we do with guys?  I mean, I'm probably telling YOU right now that your opnion doesn't count, and I'm doing a pretty good job of it, but HEY, that's what guys do, we fight and compete for influence or control or WHATEVER

You've got to learn to avoid cliches, most generalizations are usually applicable, ya know, because that's how people generally act, but it is of the utmost importance that you are able to identify a situation that falls outside those strictures.   I mean, Jesus-fucking-Christ, I've been giving myself shit lately, because over the last few years, I've realized that I've lost more and more ability to be friends with straight guys(too much competition).  Increasingly, my friends are just women, gay guys and the odd smattering of lesbians(no bi's though, they suck... heh heh)

Since when does ""So she doesnt go to every show? Is that really a measure?"" mean "women do not go to the same amount of shows as men"? Really need to learn how to read.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt you say that April's opinion doesnt count because she is a music freak?

"You've got to learn to avoid cliches, most generalizations are usually applicable, ya know, because that's how people generally act, but it is of the utmost importance that you are able to identify a situation that falls outside those strictures. "

Great, now apply it to yourself.
