I am going to have to say Jugheads Revenge for the mere fact that they were on the b-side of a seven inch with Lagwagon.

Lagwagons song, a cover of Brown-eyed girl...

The cover of lagwagon'side of the sleeve... a marijuana leaf... so edgy.

Guilt by association.

you people are fucked....Moral Crux are great. Have you even listened to them. How they get lumped in with this pop punk thing is weird. I think they are great melodic 77 punk if anything. Whatever....

Guess I should mention I'm new to the board.

haha

Hi Scott,

I don't know how I cam across this board, I have never heard of it, just kinda stubled on it.

Good shit though!

Just FYI, for those who don't think Moral Crux is shitty, their debut LP was just repressed a couple months ago on heavy ass multiple colors of vinyl, and bonus cd, 30 tracks.

Pop Culture Assassins, also just got pressed on vinyl for the first time.

check em out at Interpunk, www.jailhouse-records.com and basically everywhere.
New Pink Lincolns Press is out as well.

If you're from Washington, then talking shit about Moral Crux is heresy. James and Justin (who also plays guitar for Fitz of Depression) are awesome dudes and their shows on the eastern side of Washington were always amazing. Kids just losing their shit, grabbing the backup microphone and singing along to all the songs. 1994-1998 were great years to see them.

It was always fun to book them since because James the singer lived (lives?) with his mom and she would answer the phone. "JIIIIMMMMMYYYYY! The phone is for you!"

If anyone in here actually likes Moral Crux, which is questionable given the thread subject, 'I Was A Teenage Teenager' has been remastered and re-released on vinyl with 3d artwork and all kinds of gimmicky stuff. limited to around 260 total..

Darlington sucks. Deffinitely don't understand the Crux hate though, I don't think I have met too many people who don't like em. I guess the whole Lookout/Panic Button thing get's em lumped in with the common Pop punk label. But they are for sure more Clash style political old school punk. It deffinitely can be considered pop punk, but certainly on an entirely different level than what most would consider "pop punk" to be.

By the way James in a new band now called Dept of Martyrs, pretty cool. Kind of unusual Dead Boys/Undead kind of goth punk stuff. Fairly unique

i never even heard of Darlington, and I used to worship all kinds of pop punk.  I have to say, Jugheads Revenge is not even pop punk either tho.  Those dudes were way closer to some third-tier Fat rip off bullshit than anything else.  They were a band that you'd see on like Fearless Records or something...you know, trying to be some misnomer variant of the Fat sound but missing the point of both sides of the aisle (metal/hardcore + pop punk) completely...hence landing in this odd zone.  Bands like this always had "cool parts" and not too many "cool songs".  Bear in mind this testimony is based on my memory of being 15 years old.

also, I remember thinking Moral Crux being pretty good...and slightly serious for the pop-punk game too.

I love that people are still posting in this thread and bothering to parse the difference between the three bands I mentioned in the subject.

I still like Moral Crux a lot.  Those Jailhouse reissues are great too.  For the people in here that dig the first two albums, the remaster of the 1st album sounds great compared to the original.  I'm sure my musical taste is sketch by most of your standards though.

I didn't know about James' new band.  I'll have to check them out.

I still have 3 or 4 Moral Crux album on CD. Haven't listen to it since the 90's though.  They are definitely better  than J. Revenge (How bad is this band?) and Darlington (Worst pop punk band ever!).

i just realized something about me is never going to get over being a 15 year old chicago-suburbanite-boy in the throes of concentrated, localized screeching weasel / lookout mania.

I can't believe this shit got bumped.

I will say this: Moral Crux are great (especially The Side Effects Of Thinking). Also, 49/61 by Jughead's Revenge showed up on my ipod on shuffle the other day when I was walking to work and I almost moshed my way into the building.
