I have the same ISP as Dave (Powerlink) and a router, but I rarely have problems. Sometimes I have trouble connecting with some users that I usually can, and I find that upgrading or just rebooting the whole Soulseek client usually clears that up.

My question: does anyone think the Paypal donation thing works any better? I've done it before and I think I get the same results/speed either way.

If you suspect trouble with your router, be sure to go into SLSK , go to options->general options and there is a button to click that will test your router settings.  That'll at least let you know that is where the problem is at.

For the donation/privledges thing - I dont think it makes a major difference (someone actually just donated some days to me on there, so using them now).  If you're downloading from someone who doesnt have you on their userlist, you get bumped up in the queue like you are on their list.  The global search seems to work a little better too, but thats tough to quantify.

My roommate and I can't browse eachother's files and we're in the same house.  I'm sure we could change something to make it work, but ya know, we just haven't.

I've had trouble browsing people lately.  I used to be able to browse Paul Reject's files, which is a pretty mind blowing experience, but I can't get 'em anymore.

Gorehound...yeah, that's one of the mainstays on my list that I've gone back to repeatedly.  I remember getting stuff from Paul has a knife too.  It is equally awesome and crappy when you find someone with so much stuff that it would take days to get it all.  I'm all polite about it and keep it to an album at a time from a person, so it's hard when they have like 15 albums and a bunch of 7"s I want.  What makes it worse is when they're one of those people who's only on for a few hours each day.  When I'm on, I'm on for like a week or two straight without shutting down.

I'm at work and I don't know my user name off the top of my head.  I'll post it later.  I only have like 4500 files, but it's quality over quantity.
