Heavy Face - myspace tracks (Freddy from This Song Is A Mess has gotten seriously ugly and hateful, and I like it alot. Not alot of shit from LA impresses me but this stuff is really good. Pissed and sick brutality. "who you callin' a faggot? faggot!" Freddy has amazing stage presence too so I'm sure these guys are a force live.)

new Shoot It Up 7' on Crim IQ. Pretty great, best recording job they've got yet, sounds a little less like a fucking mess than the previous records, but you can hear some actual tunes on this one. Fucking great. Sad I missed them on tour.

The intro to the Avant Gardeners 'where are my hormones'. Its seriously crying out for me to rip it off.

Yuya Uchida and the Flowers - Challenge

I accidentally downloaded this while downloading Flower Travellin' Band's Satori off a music blog. The Flowers were the first incarnation of Flower Travellin' Band. This album is basically all covers - Cream, Hendrix, Big Brother and the Holding Co., etc. Nothing spectacular. It's the mangled "Engrish" that makes it a hoot:

"I'm so grad, I'm so grad, I'm grad, I'm grad, I'm grad...."

The Patriots, Pharoah's Land demos (Seriously, I can't believe this is from 1986.  Sounds the first 20/20 single!!!  I've loved the split-EP with the Chicaynes since I got it a few years back, but these are a real revelation.  Great.)

Charlie Fawn, Hothead Handshake Tremble 45 (HOLY SHIT!  A 'mod revival' single that actually sounds like a 4REAL Wigan Casino floor-filler.  Break out the jaytex and oxford bags!  Completely unprepared for this one having only heard 'Blue Skies' off the Little Hits blog.  Sounds like the Love Affair!!!  I am stupefied this was never a hit, especially given the time period and the fact that the Jam were regularly sending material much less realized than this into the upper reaches of the charts.  Hot Damn, colour me a Charlie Fawn fan!)
